The game against the Hokies will be the second ever time the Rams have played Virginia Tech, with the first meeting having been a 34-7 win for the Hokies on October 11th, 1980. Overall this is key for the Rhode Island football program that is on the upswing, coming off of their first winning season since 2001. The Rams now stand to make a combined 900 thousand dollars off of the two buy games in 2019 per the Providence Journal’s Bill Koch.
First ACC opponent for #URI since the 2015 season opener, a 47-0 shutout loss at Syracuse. Coupled with a visit to Ohio, #Rams stand to rake in a combined $900K against a pair of FBS opponents in 2019.

This is monumental for a program that has also announced plans within the last year to upgrade Meade Stadium with both turf and lights within the next two years. Under the direction of Head Coach Jim Fleming and Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn, the future sure does look bright for football at the University of Rhode Island for the first time in a long time.
