Fatts Russell had another Fatts Russell game as URI beat VCU 87-75 in Kingston on Friday night. With this win, Rhody has extended their win streak to 8 games now with their only A-10 loss coming in the opener to Richmond.
16 of Russells 30 points came from the free-throw line, going 16-18 on the night. Senior Jeff Dowtin added 15 first half points going 3-3 from long range.
Rhody headed into the break up 22 on the southernmost Rams. Coming into the game on Friday URI was 11-0 when leading at the half.
The same success was not found in the second half, however. Rhody had their largest lead of the night with 15:55 left in the second half. VCU had three separate runs of 8-0, 9-0, and 13-0 respectively. The Rams sustained those runs however behind 65 combined points from the three starting guards Fatts Russell, Tyrese Martin, and Jeff Dowtin. Cyril Langevine and Tyrese Martin sealed the game with a slam and a three-pointer with under two minutes to play.
Rhode Island will play UMASS on Tuesday night in the Ryan Center.
