We are only under a month away from the beginning of what will be one of if not the most historic postseason we have seen in baseball.
Now that we have 16 playoff teams, as well as a few of the other funky rules added such as the runner on second base to start extra innings and the universal designated hitter, we are in for an exciting playoffs.
The end of the regular season should also be a lot of fun as well. There are still plenty of teams fighting for playoff spots, and remember, each regular season game holds over two times as much value than a normal game so the next month is crucial for the .500 teams on the verge of finding a playoff spot.
Two teams have already clinched a spot, the Dodgers and Rays, and it is highly unlikely that the other teams within the top 10-12 spots will fall short of the playoffs, but hey, you never know. There are two teams officially eliminated from postseason contention as well, the Red Sox and Royals.
A few teams to watch for the remainder of the season in the hunt that have been surprising and exciting include the Phillies and the Giants. Both teams have been very hot and if you were looking at last week’s rankings you were probably thinking they didn’t have a great shot of making the playoffs.
The Padres and White Sox though. Not many baseball fans would have thought that they would both be in the top five at this point, even in a 60 game season. If these two end up matching up in the World Series, that would be an incredible series.
