Kingston, RI- Its homecoming weekend here in Rhody and the Rams took on Colonial foe the Elon Phoenix. Elon had won the toss and elected to differ, that choice paid off for them as a muffed snap by Vito Priore was recovered by the Phoneix and it paid off instantly as a yard pass from Davis Cheek found Avery Jones in the endzone. After three and out’s from both teams, Rhody drove down the field and a C.J. Carrick 25 yard field goal cut the lead to four. A few four and outs later Rhody had the ball on their own 40-yard line when Priore was intercepted by Greg Liggs Jr. Three downs later Branyan Javier-Castillo had a huge third-down stop to force the Phoenix to punt. After Rhody took over at their own 25 Naim Jones punched off a 60-yard rush which was their longest of the year to put the Rams at Elon’s 20. That drive resulted in a C.J. Carrick 32 yard field goal to make it a one-point game. A punt that would have placed Rhody on the Elon 45 was touched first by Ahmere Dorsey and recovered by Shamari Wingard of Elon. The Rams then responded with an interception of their own when Elon ran a flea-flicker and the RI native Malik Gaveck snagged the Kortez Weeks pass out of the air to put Rhody on their own 37. However, all that came from it was a quick three and out for the Rams. Elon received the second half kick and the Rams held them to a field goal, after the opening kick off a 37-yard pass from Priore to RS-SO Hunter Gorgas. On 4th down from the Elon 30, Rhody converted on a pass to Ahmere Dorsey on 4th and 5. Five plays later, Zoe Bryant Jr. punched in a two-yard touchdown run to give the Rams a 12-10 lead. A hold by Caleb Warren pushed C.J. Carrick’s extra point back to a 30-yard attempt, Carrick still split the uprights. Immediately following the Rhody score Elon drove 72 yards down the length of the field and De’Sean Mcnair punched in a one-yard touchdown run. Priore then threw his second interception of the day and the second one to Greg Liggs Jr. who was forced out at the three. Back up quarterback Joey Baughman came in a punched in a one-yard quarterback keeper to put the Phoenix ahead 24-13. Another three and out for Rhody forced them to punt again, and four plays later Joey Baughman knocked off a 67 touchdown run on 3rd down, the first time they had converted on the day. That touchdown put the Phoenix up 31-13. Elon would then score again after De’Sean McNair broke off a 42-yard touchdown run and two plays later Brelynd Cyphers punched in a one-yard touchdown run, making the score 38-13. On the ensuing drive three plays later Priore threw his third interception of the day, all three snagged by Greg Liggs Jr. That would do it for the Rams on the day as they fell 38-13.
