Although it may not seem like it spring is fast approaching, with that, comes the start of collegiate baseball which kicks off the second weekend in February. The 2020 URI Men’s baseball team will play their first 17 games on the road, games that are highlighted by contests against #18 Arizona and #38 Central Michigan (both at the University of Arizona). The Rams also a power-five opponent in the Maryland Terrapins along with a weekend series against an East Carolina team who was picked to finish first in the American Athletic Conference.

Rhody looks to be lead by veteran leadership, head coach Raphel Cerrato is lead by senior pitchers Nick Robinson and Vitaly Jangols. Robinson, who came off of his first full season in the Rams weekend rotation, making ten starts on the season. Jangols, who had a stellar freshman season in 2017, has seen a steady decline in production but has still been extremely effective for the Rams. Xavier Vargas and Jackson Coutts will anchor the Rams lineup this season. Coutts and Vargas combined for 8 home runs the previous season to go with 9 and 6 doubles respectively.

Rhody Baseball fans should also expect key contributions from a few freshmen. Alex Rameriez, a left-handed hitting shortstop could see serious time in the middle infield along with freshman RHP Domenic Picone could potentially fight for a spot in the weekend rotation.
